How to Apply for a TurboGears GSoC 2008 Project as a Student
| Status: | Official, Draft |
|---|
The application period for students opens on March 24 and end on March 31, 2008. You submit your application via Google's GSoC student application form (see below), but please read the following sections first!
For more information on the TurboGears GSoC 2008 program visit our main GSoC page.
Step 1: Find a Project Idea
Please visit our project ideas page and look for projects that you would like to work on. If you don't find anything that interests you, you are encouraged to come up with your own project ideas or suggest changes to the existing project proposals. In any case you should discuss your project and your plans for working on it with us. Please see the next for information on how to do this.
Step 2: Discuss your Idea
If you have found a project you would like to work on, or you have your own project idea, or you want to work with us but are not sure which project would be the best for you, please contact our mentors or join our general mailing list to present and discuss your ideas.
We suggest that you put something like [GSoC project proposal] into the subject of your email, to make sure we won't miss it. In your email, it would be nice if you gave us a rough idea about who you are and why you want to work with the TurboGears project for GSoC 2008. Then explain your project proposal briefly and, if there is no mentor listed yet, ask if somebody is willing to mentor it. If anything is unclear to you or you need help with fleshing out your project proposal or your application, again, don't hesitate to ask.
Step 3: Fill out your Application
We have prepared a simple application form, which we would like you to fill out as detailed as possible, so that we can get an impression of who you are and what you plan to do for the TurboGears GSoC 2008 program. Please don't hesitate to provide any additional information that think useful or that might help us in our decision whether to accept your application. We would like to accept as many applications as we can handle, but naturally, we will especially favor those that have been filled out properly and with consideration.
If you want to work on a project from the project ideas page, be sure to mention the exact project title in your application. But please don't just copy the project description directly form the ideas page! We want to hear in your own words what you want to do and how you would organize your work.
If you are a non-English speaker and you would like to submit your application in a different language, please contact our GSoC administrator, and we will check, if there is a mentor who is able to handle your application.
Dear Student,
Please fill out the application form below and send it to the TurboGears GSoC
